Deloitte Trinidad releases its FY20 Corporate Responsibility & Sustainability (CR&S) Report

Working together to make an impact that matters

Port of Spain, Trinidad - 12 January, 2021

The Deloitte Trinidad FY20 Corporate Responsibility & Sustainability (CR&S) Report highlights our commitment to driving societal change through working with charitable organizations, promoting environmental conservation and contributing to a sustainable and prosperous future for our local community.

Fiscal year 2020 brought a new set of challenges and amplified the need for organizations to support communities and help shape the future by creating positive and lasting change. Our team came together to find initiatives that aligned with our CR&S pillars, mainly youth, education and the environment. We were able to make an impact that matters through pro bono and skills-based volunteering, relationships with non-profits, charitable giving and other initiatives, to the tune of circa TT$2.75m.

Our professionals came together to make an impact in the education sector, inclusive of primary, secondary and tertiary levels. We created and refurbished reading spaces at the Tunapuna Presbyterian Primary School and the Montrose Government Primary School. Part of the team also helped to revitalize an existing outdoor space for the students of the Tunapuna Presbyterian Primary School to practice sustainable agriculture. Additionally, our team was instrumental in creating an Anti-bullying Safe Space at the Mucurapo East Secondary School. This was a collaborative effort led by Deloitte and included the Digicel Foundation, the principal, teachers and students of the school. Our managers and staff also proudly supported the Mock Interview delivery at the UWI-Republic Bank World of Work (WOW) Programme 2020. They shared insights on career paths and opportunities to university students.

We also continued to support our non-governmental organizations (NGOs) as they endeavour to make a positive difference in the community. In January 2020, Deloitte Trinidad provided a Business Chemistry workshop to the Living Waters Community (LWC) staff at no cost. We were able to assist the LWC staff to understand each other's Business Chemistry types, which is one of the first steps in fostering communication and work ethic in successful teams.

We also affirmed our commitment to sustainability, with our WorldClimate launch. Globally, Deloitte committed to eliminate net-zero carbon emissions by 2030. As part of our journey, we did a tree replanting project to help improve air quality, sequester carbon and reduce hillside erosion. This initiative was facilitated through the Fondes Amandes Community Reforestation Project. At our office, we reduced our use of plastic cutlery by 90 percent, and replaced all our lighting with LED fixtures, reducing approximately 20-25% in kwh usage and reduced our total electricity usage by 20 percent. Through the WorldClimate initiative, we continue to encourage our professionals to act on climate change both at work and home. We also engage our broader ecosystem to create solutions that facilitate the transition to a low carbon economy.

We acknowledge that this past year has been uniquely challenging and as our firm, people and community emerge, we are committed to building a better and sustainable normal. This report reflects on our stories of impact and the initiatives achieved by our corporate giving strategy.
