Global Workforce Lounge Episode 4: An interview with Jane Owen, UK Ambassador to Switzerland, discussing the impact of Brexit on future bilateral relations between the UK and Switzerland

In this episode we are joined by Jane Owen, British Ambassador to Switzerland, to discuss the likely impact of Brexit on the future trading relationship between Switzerland and the UK, as well as the continued movement of people between the countries. We look at the following topics during the interview:

  • What do UK and Swiss citizens currently residing in the other country need to do to ensure they have the right to remain and work from 1 January 2021 onwards.
  • How will the immigration process for new moves between the UK and Switzerland change.
  • An overview of how people are moving between the two countries at present, and the outlook for future moves under a new bilateral relationship.
  • The importance of bilateral Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) to the Swiss and UK economies, and expectations for future FDI once a new trading relationship is reached.
  • What businesses should expect from a new trading relationship between the UK and Switzerland.

Jane Owen, British Ambassador to Switzerland and Liechtenstein

Jane Owen is currently Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the Swiss Confederation and non-resident Ambassador to Liechtenstein.

Prior to this she served as Her Majesty’s Ambassador to Norway and Chief Operating Officer at UK Trade and Investment in London. Jane was educated at Ellerslie School in Malvern, and Trinity College, Cambridge (BA Hons in Russian, French and German).
