David Wu

David Wu is the Vice Chair of Deloitte China; Chair of the Board of Partners of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Certified Public Accountants LLP in China; and the Financial Services Industry Leader in China.

David is a senior banking audit and corporate governance expert with more than 30 years of experience. He has worked in Hong Kong, New York, Sydney, London, Shanghai and Beijing. Since 2021, David has been the signing partner for the audits of Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (the world's largest commercial bank by asset size). He was also the signing partner assisting Bank of China in its IPO in Hong Kong and Shanghai (2002-2006) and the signing partner assisting the Postal Savings Bank of China’s IPO in Hong Kong (2009 -2012).

David, with a team assembled globally and across regulatory agencies, led the designing of The Bank Reform Roadmap for China (2002 – 2008) that provided technical guidance to China’s large state-owned banks to embark on reform in the areas of corporate governance, financial reporting and capital restructuring. He worked at Financial Services Authority in London (2008-2009) to analyze the root causes of Global Financial Crisis and ways to enhance global regulatory coordination. He also worked at the National Institute of Financial Research, Tsinghua University, where he conducted research on the reform of China’s banking sector and the financial system in general (2018 – 2019) to identify success factors in developing China's accounting capabilities and implementing bank reforms in the last 40 years since opening up.

David is the author of two books: Walking at the Forefront of Accounting Development and Bank Reform in China (2009) and The Road to Trust – realizing the value of external audit (2017). He also selected, compiled, and translated into Chinese Essentials of Bank Management – Notes from Letters to Shareholders by Jamie Dimon (2005-2020), a book published by China Financial Press with authorization from JPMorgan Chase and Jamie Dimon. In addition, he translated into Chinese three other books relating to professional services: Managing the Professional Service Firm, The Trusted Advisor, and True Professionalism.

David is an adjunct professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the University of International Business and Economics (UIBE), and Xiamen National Accounting Institute.
