Deloitte Organizes 10K Run for Underserved Children in Bahadurpura Mandal

  • Funds raised will be utilized towards enhancing educational standards and learning abilities of underserved children in Telangana’s Bahadurpura mandal.
  • 10K Run provides an opportunity for thousands of employees and their families to focus on their health and fitness.

Hyderabad, January 24, 2016: Over 5,000 Deloitte employees along with their spouses and children participated in the ‘Deloitte 10K Run’ held today at Necklace Road, adjoining the Hussain Sagar Lake in Hyderabad. Continuing its commitment to the health and wellbeing of its professionals, the run now in its fourth edition, was organised to extend this commitment to families of professionals, and the community at large. Anurag Sharma, Director General of Police, and the chief guest of the Deloitte 10K Run, flagged off the runners.

This year, Deloitte collaborated with the United Way of Hyderabad, and contributed INR 1,000 for every professional participating in the run, towards enhancing educational standards and learning abilities of underserved children in Telangana’s Bahadurpura mandal. Despite being one of the largest education divisions in Hyderabad, the Bahadurpura mandal has the highest dropout rate and irregular attendance in schools, particularly among girl children. The Department of Education in the State had approached the United Way of Hyderabad, a volunteer led, non-profit organization, serving the needy predominantly in Telangana & Andhra Pradesh, to initiate and execute a programme to improve this condition. The adopted schools also included special schools for the differently abled.

“At Deloitte, we are committed to our clients, people and the community. As individuals, most of us were privileged to have access to a good education, a comfortable lifestyle and the support of our families during our formative years. It is all the more important that we help develop a supportive ecosystem for the underserved in the Bahadurpura region”, said Bruce Stewart, Principal, Deloitte LLP. “Along with the United Way of Hyderabad, we are looking at creating a sustainable educational environment, and increase student attendance by 75 percent, academic performance by 50 percent and reduce the girl child dropout rates by 50 percent in Bahadurpura”, he added. The annual ‘Deloitte 10K Run’ is an extension of Deloitte’s Health & Fitness program, providing opportunities for all professionals, regardless of their fitness level, to adopt healthy lifestyle changes.

“Given the modern lifestyle of individuals in corporate India, the Deloitte 10K Run serves as an important reminder to those who neglect their health in pursuit of career goals. Companies have an important part to play here. Ever since its launch in 2013, the Deloitte 10K Run has caught the imagination and passion of Deloitte employees and has become a distinctive event in our annual calendar”, said S.V. Nathan, Senior Director and Chief Talent Officer, Deloitte India.
