CRS: Registration deadline extended

Deloitte Malta Tax Alert

The Malta Inland Revenue Department (‘IRD’) has announced that the deadline for registration with the Commissioner for Revenue for the purposes of Council Directive 2014/107/EU amending Directive 2011/16/EU as regards mandatory automatic exchange of information in the field of taxation (‘DAC2’) and Common Reporting Standard (‘CRS’) has been extended from 30 June 2016 to 30 September 2016.

A Malta Financial Institution is obliged to register through the online registration process, which will be made available on the IRD website in due course. A Malta Financial Institution which has already registered with the Commissioner for the purposes of FATCA will not be obliged to register again for the purposes of DAC2 and CRS, and only certain information will be required to be provided to the IRD.
