Impact Day 2016

Deloitte Malaysia impacts more than 2000 lives as they give back to the community

More than 800 Deloitte employees nationwide came together for an entire day to bring joy, restoration, knowledge, and replenishment for a good cause in conjunction with Deloitte’s annual IMPACT Day.

Themed ‘Making an impact that matters’, IMPACT Day is Deloitte’s annual Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program that runs concurrently across 11 other member firms in Southeast Asia and 8 offices in Malaysia. More than 2000 lives were collectively impacted through various activities and programmes run by Deloitte volunteers nationwide. Deloitte Malaysia’s IMPACT Day 2016 took place on 26 August, Friday.

“We are in our 9th year running with Deloitte’s annual IMPACT Day and more people have signed up to volunteer with each passing year. It is encouraging to see growing compassion and an increasing sense of responsibility to society within Deloittians,” said Dato’ Nizar Najib, Deloitte Malaysia’s Impact Day Champion.

“I’m glad to see Deloittians taking a pause from the hustle and bustle of their busy routines to commit time in giving back to the society that they operate in,” said Deloitte Malaysia’s Country Managing Partner, Tan Theng Hooi.

Deloitte reached out to the underprivileged children of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Sungai Manggis, Banting, equipping them with public speaking, leadership and team building skills. In collaboration with Teach For Malaysia (TFM), our volunteers also conducted aptitude tests for the students to assess their individuals strengths and weaknesses. Close to 70 Deloittians volunteered in this second yearly collaboration with TFM.

At Petaling Jaya’s oldest government school, Sekolah Kebangsaan (1) Petaling Jaya, nearly 100 Deloittians helped to refurbish the school’s classrooms by installing railings, repainting the walls of the school entrance and surau and beautifying the school compounds with some gardening. More than 40 university students from Universiti Malaya (UM), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UiTM), HELP University, Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TAR UC), Multimedia University Cyberjaya (MMU) and International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) also joined as volunteers to help revamp and restore the school.

Deloitte’s IMPACT Day activities this year went on all the way until the dark hours of 1:30 a.m. – more than 50 volunteers participated in a Deloitte-only collaboration with Kechara Soup Kitchen (KSK), one of the better-known soup kitchens in Malaysia to give out food and necessities to the homeless around Kuala Lumpur. Prior to IMPACT Day, Deloitte also held a firmwide collection of items needed by Kechara and delivered them to the NGO’s headquarters, all of which were distributed yesterday night. As this night-time activity is a first for most of the volunteers, the activity was impactful not only to the individuals in need but also to our Deloittians, as they were exposed to the state of homelessness in our urban city.

Deloitte Malaysia also brought much needed joy and camaraderie to the elderly, disabled individuals, single-parent children and orphans nationwide. Organisations that received care, love and help from Deloitte include Persatuan Kebajikan Kanak -Kanak Cacat Yee Ran Jing Sheh (YRJS), Relau Rumah Charis (Home for the Senior Citizens), Pertubuhan Kebajikan Warga Emas Dan Anak Yatim Nazareth, Rumah Kebajikan Kanak -Kanak Cacat Negeri, Batu Gajah (RKKKC), Rumah Orang Tua Al-Ikhlas, Rumah KIDS and Esther & Daniel Home.
