Women’s floorball team starts off SEA Games campaign with a win

Team Singapore kick-started their SEA Games campaign with a convincing win against Malaysia. Both teams started the game with positive intent but it was Singapore who managed to convert this into goals.

Singapore scored the opener in the first minute on a counterattack. Malaysia had their chance to equalise when Singapore received a penalty and had to play with 4 against 5 towards the end of the first period. Both Wynne Tang, Senior Audit Associate, and Joscelin Kee, Audit Associate, were crucial in helping to shore up the defence to ensure that Singapore kept their lead going into the second period. Fantastic teamwork gave Singapore their second goal and the third period saw three more. The final score was 5-0 to Singapore.

Men’s badminton team ends SEA Games run with bronze

It was a tantalizing match-up between Singapore and Thailand in the semifinal round of the men’s team event. From the get-go, spectators were treated to long and entertaining rallies from both countries.

Derek Wong, Clients & Markets Research Analyst, led the first match against Thailand’s Saensomboonsuk T. with a score of 21-18 in the first set. The Thai presented a tougher challenge for Derek compared to the quarterfinal match but Derek came out victorious upon winning the second set 21-19. Thailand, however, came back strong in the second and third game to lead 2-1. Singapore’s second doubles held their ground and defeated their opponents to bring this semifinal into the fifth and final match. Despite Singapore’s best efforts, a spot in the final eluded the team.

Team Singapore has ended their SEA Games run in the men’s badminton team events with a bronze medal but our shuttlers will be refocusing for their individual events which will commence on 13 June.

Women’s basketball team puts up a valiant effort against Thailand

The first quarter saw both sides having their share of possession and chances but Thailand managed a slightly higher conversion rate and went into the second quarter with a 5-point lead. Second quarter was a one-sided affair with Thailand dominating in terms of ball possession and conversion. Despite Singapore’s best efforts in the last two quarters, they did not manage to turn the odds in their favor and eventually fell to Thailand 46-83.

Singapore showed their resilience against basketball powerhouse, Thailand, and we would like to commend them for their effort.
