Deloitte Foundation/FSA Faculty Consortium

Overview

The Deloitte Foundation/Federation of Schools of Accountancy (FSA) Faculty Consortium delivers relevant practice information that participants can incorporate into their institutions’ curricula. The Foundation works closely with the FSA board to develop and execute the content-rich programs designed to help faculty from FSA schools deepen the educational experiences of their students, the next generation of accounting professionals.

Prior year themes have focused on data analytics, judgments in accounting, disclosures and contingencies, investments, revenue recognition, financial instruments, leasing, the current standard setting process, fair value measurement, international financial reporting standards, risk management in the Sarbanes-Oxley era, forensic accounting/corporate governance, and ethics and professionalism.

2019 Deloitte Foundation/FSA Faculty Consortium materials

The 17th Annual Consortium discussed the impact of continuous technology disruption to the audit and accounting profession and provided tools professors can incorporate into their curricula to teach relevant skill sets to the next generation of talent. This year’s agenda included in-depth presentations and case studies to offer practical applications of tools that leverage emerging technologies and a panel discussion about the implications for curriculum and the evolving skill set that will likely be required for future auditors.

2018 Deloitte Foundation/FSA Faculty Consortium materials

The 16th Annual Consortium, held at Deloitte University’s campus in Westlake, TX, focused on “Implementing the New Revenue Recognition Standard,” and discussed the principles and applications of the new standard and provided case studies professors can incorporate into curricula.

Participants had the opportunity to work through multiple case studies on the new revenue recognition standard from accounting, auditing, and financial reporting and disclosure perspectives. These materials offer real-world applications that help facilitate classroom learning for the next generation of accounting professionals.

2017 Deloitte Foundation/FSA Faculty Consortium materials

The 15th Annual Consortium, held on May 19-20, 2017 at Deloitte University’s campus in Westlake, TX, provided two case studies on non-GAAP measures and internal controls, and a third case on auditor independence featuring the Auditor Independence Education Materials (developed by Deloitte and the University of Illinois Center for Professional Responsibility in Business and Society). This year’s agenda also included in-depth presentations and a panel discussion with Deloitte practitioners and experienced educators at leading accounting programs.

2016 Deloitte Foundation/FSA Faculty Consortium materials

The 14th Annual Consortium, focused on innovation with the theme “Big Opportunities, Big Data.” More than 100 accounting educators and audit, tax, and advisory professionals discussed data analytics, how it will likely change the practice—and how to incorporate this important topic into their curricula.

The topic was brought to life through panel sessions, a demonstration of the Tableau business analytics software, and case studies in the areas of audit, advisory, and tax that highlighted practical applications of analytics and ways to incorporate the case studies in class. Each case study was presented by a faculty member with support from a Deloitte professional. Attendees used data visualization tools to analyze simulated business issues and discuss their findings and recommendations.
