CRO 2.0: Widening the lens

The future risk function in insurance has to reflect drivers of change, from evolving economic and business models, increasing regulatory awareness and advancing digitization and technology. Beyond improving the existing capabilities and tools in Risk functions, these teams face ongoing efficiency and cost pressure. We will discuss aspects covering both drivers of change and how to respond appropriately, specifically focusing on collaboration and governance around CRO, CISO and Compliance; new role(s) of the CRO; and a view towards harmonization of non-financial risk, the future of controls and how risk operating models might evolve.

Speaker: Markus Salchegger, Partner, Risk Advisory, Deloitte Germany

Markus Salchegger supports insurance companies in successfully mastering their regulatory, technological and economic challenges. With over 25 years experience in insurance, reinsurance, banking, asset management and software development, he has advised clients on the analysis, design and implementation of solutions for financial and risk management and financial services applications. Markus serves as one of our Risk Advisory leaders for our Global Insurance group.

Weathering the Cyber Storm – Managing Risk and cyber preparedness

As a consequence of digitalization of our society a number of disruptive forces drive changes in the insurance industry. Insurance companies are building the Digital Data Nerve Center, which implies huge investments to digitize their processes. Digital data plays an important role in these investments. Insurers are building self-services, using AI, robotics, blockchain, STP, based on platforms and cloud solutions. It is affecting the complete enterprise and as such it is transformative. Insurers need to be closer to their customers and have omni contacts channel with their customers, like phone, web, apps, and have real time conversations through these channels. In order to be successful in their digital transformation insurers need to ensure that data, applications, networks and computer systems are cyber secure and resilient. In the Insurance Risk series we will address topics like the changing threat landscape in insurance, cloud governance and cloud security (DevSecOps), the future of digital identities in insurance, developments in regulatory requirements and cyber resilience.

Speaker: Florian Widmer, Partner, Risk Advisory, Deloitte Switzerland

Florian Widmer is a Partner in Deloitte’s Cyber Risk Services practice in Switzerland and leads the Cyber Vigilant, Cyber Resilient and Data Privacy services. He has over 15 years of experience in helping clients managing their most challenging cyber security and privacy risks.
