Deloitte@5th Viadrina Kongress, 4th-5th July 2017

The annual Viadrina Congress serves as an exchange platform for delegates from business, academia, governments, international organizations, associations and more. Key topics are current cross-border compliance and anti-corruption issues.

The Viadrina Compliance Centre together with Compliance Academy will host the 5th edition of the Viadrina Compliance Congress entitled “Compliance Across the Globe” at the Bucerius Law School in Hamburg. Co-operation partners are the B20 Cross-Thematic Group on Responsible Business Conduct and Anti-Corruption as well as the Deutsches Institut für Compliance and Alliance for Integrity.

The congress aims to highlight and to deepen the current issues of cross-border compliance to present existing solutions and to initiate new developments through an active exchange of views between all stakeholders.

In five thematic panels almost 20 experts will speak about current challenges in compliance and anti-corruption.

Deloitte Legal's contribution

Dr. Sophie Luise Bings, Counsel at Deloitte Legal, will speak in the 4th panel "Penalties, rewards, and other alternatives – the status quo and how legislators and justice should support the creation of sustainable compliance culture within organizations."

The compliance development over the last years has not only had a positive impact on companies and other organizations that have strengthened the culture of integrity. States and societies have profited by this progress, too. Nevertheless, the national legislators have responded widely differing to this development: from rewards of existing effective compliance solutions to the plans for the introduction of company penalties. Many other countries remained inactive.

Can this approach be right? How can we work together with other countries and compensate different conditions that eliminate a confusing situation for globally operating companies and promote a sustainable culture of integrity at the same time?
