Deloitte Legal wins IP-Team from KPMG Law

Deloitte Legal is further expanding its IP expertise in the field of the digital economy. On 1 July 2019, Sebastian von Rüden, LL.M. (IP/IT; Univ. Edinburgh), a specialist in intellectual property law, joined the firm’s Düsseldorf office as a salary partner. The 45-year-old came from local competitor KPMG Law, where he had most recently been responsible for the IP practice. Along with von Rüden, associate Sonja Baier and a trademark and design clerk moved to Deloitte Legal.

Sebastian von Rüden has more than 14 years of experience in IP and IT law advice to national and international corporations, medium-sized and owner-managed companies, financial investors and start-ups. He has particular expertise and experience in the IP/IT area of interfaces, in multidisciplinary advice on intellectual property management and licensing systems, in trademark, domain and design portfolio management, as well as in IP audits and compliance in IP, consumer protection and competition law. Sebastian von Rüden also regularly advises on IP transactions as well as the restructuring of IP portfolios and advises and represents his clients in (cross-border) infringement proceedings in trademark, design, copyright and rights of expression law, in licensing disputes as well as in disputes regarding product imitations or misleading advertising measures.

"The approach of rendering holistic and integrated advice to clients in the field of the digital economy regularly requires an interdisciplinary cross-border approach covering the areas of law, information technology, tax and consulting," explains Dr. Tobias Fuchs, Partner and Head of the Digital Economy Practice Group at Deloitte Legal. "We are therefore particularly pleased to have gained Sebastian von Rüden as a colleague who not only has profound expertise in the fields of intellectual property and information technology law, but also has many years of experience in managing national and international projects with specialists in other countries and from other fields of expertise."

"Sebastian von Rüden and his team are an excellent addition for our already very powerful Commercial Law Team." adds Thomas Northoff, Co-Managing Partner Deloitte Legal Germany. "Sebastian von Rüden will support us in further expanding our interdisciplinary national and international IP and technology consulting business and in consistently pursuing our path to becoming a full-service provider for IP management."
