Davos, Switzerland, 23 January 2014 – Corruption is recognized as one of the most significant obstacles to economic and social development with serious implications for nearly all sectors and industries. Addressing this issue through CEO-level leadership and collaboration across industries can bring much needed transformation; and working closely with partners in government and civil society is a critical step towards combating the global phenomenon of corruption.

The Vanguard community of more than 20 CEOs identified major “drivers” of change needed to direct corruption out of the system. One of the most important elements is creating a harmonized legal and regulatory framework. We will team with the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) to extend the adoption and implementation of the OECD Convention on Combating Bribery as a means for creating a stronger legal basis for a true level playing field.

In our interconnected world it is critical now, more than ever, for leaders in business, government and civil society to collaborate, share views, and jointly find solutions in the anti-corruption agenda that may ultimately improve industry competitiveness, promote economic growth, and stimulate investment and development.
