Deloitte Study: Prospects of the ICT Sector in Greece

Study conducted by Deloitte on behalf of SEPE.

Deloitte’s study, “Prospects of the ICT Sector in Greece”, conducted in collaboration with SEPE (Federation of Hellenic ICT Enterprises, Digital Europe & WITSA Member), included approximately 20 interviews with ICT company executives, primary research with 200 industry leaders, and working meetings with SEPE’s Committees.

The study identifies the key technological priorities for the next three
years: Artificial Intelligence (30%), Cybersecurity (18%), and Cloud Computing
(13%), with the Internet of Things (6%) and Big Data (10%) also emerging as
promising areas.

According to the study, Greece’s ICT sector is projected to reach €10.4
billion by 2029, accounting for 4.6% of GDP—a 35% increase compared to 2024 and an 80% rise since 2019. If Greece aligns with European standards, the sector could grow to €12.5 billion, contributing 5.5% of GDP. Over the past five years, the ICT sector has grown four times faster than the overall economy, underscoring its immense potential.

Key Prospects for 2029 include:

  1. Internationalization: Strengthening exports and establishing international hubs, such as data centers.
  2. Innovation Investment: Developing solutions for national needs, including cybersecurity and defense.
  3. Human Capital: Attracting foreign talent and creating new ICT postgraduate programs.
  4. Digital Economy: Cultivating a "digital-first" culture through the digitization of the public sector.

By pursuing these key prospects, the study concludes that Greece's ICT sector can become a major driver of the country’s digital transformation towards a more competitive economy.
