Central European CFO Survey 2018

Central Europe CFO Survey 2018

Optimism and digital approach characterize the largest companies in the region

Deloitte's 9th Central European CFO survey was conducted in twelve countries around the world involving nearly 600 financial executives.

Positive economic outlook, moderate risk appetite

Based on our survey, CFOs in Central Europe are more confident about their business prospects than at any time in the past three years. The main reason for this positivism is the healthy GDP growth expected by 2018: an average 2.4 percent increase, which is 0.5 percent higher than the expected rate in 2017.

Message from the CFO Program Leader:

Our survey clearly shows that financial executives in Hungary are quite optimistic for 2018 and beyond, though this atmosphere of confidence is somewhat shadowed by challenges such as involving high-skilled labor and general business costs. Nevertheless, nearly 10 years after the global crisis suffered by many businesses in the Central Eastern European region, the mood of financial directors is clearly more confident and optimistic.

Robotic process automation is gaining ground

Only 7 percent of CFOs think that the financial function is fully prepared for the company's growing digitization needs. Not surprisingly, this ratio is high in the manufacturing and technology, media, telecommunications (TMT) industries. While one third of the respondents say that the process automation saves up to 10 percent, it is almost the same rate for executives who are likely to find a cost reduction of 10 to 40 percent.

Message from the CFO Program Leader:

"CFOs are the driver and also a proactive designer within whole company in developing a corporate digital strategy. They are mostly active in their own functional area in this regard, but they clearly treat digitization as the main focus area. As a key element of their digital strategy they highligthed controlling digital business processes, development of new analytics applications based on Big Data and digitalization of finance function.”
