THE SITUATION
An international logistics company, which has been a Deloitte client for several years, underwent a transformation affecting Hungary as well. As a result of the change in ownership, the Hungarian financial operations faced several challenges beyond the daily tasks: aligning the differing financial processes and support teams of the two companies coming under joint management; meeting the deadlines of the accounting tasks related to the transformation: preparing and auditing inventories and reports. Additionally, during the transformation period, the client experienced a temporary shortage of resources, which led the company to seek external support. Since Deloitte had previously participated in the preparation of the Hungarian reports of one of the corporate groups involved in the transformation, there was already a connection with the Hungarian Deloitte colleagues.
THE SOLVE
Following consultations with the client's regional management and after a quick situation analysis, we recommended setting up a small project team from Deloitte. Two experienced managers took charge of the report preparation and audit coordination, an experienced colleague temporarily took over the management of the local financial team, and we strengthened the local reporting team with a senior accountant, who also handled daily tasks until a new colleague could be hired for this position.
THE IMPACT
Thanks to the coordinated teamwork, the set goals were achieved: the audit and report preparation were completed on time, and the continuous operation of the financial department was ensured along with the training of the new colleagues. Beyond their high professional competence, the Deloitte project team was aided by their quick situation recognition and problem-solving abilities, project management experience, and fluent English skills, which were essential in the international environment (foreign management and support teams). The client concluded the nearly half-year-long project with satisfaction and requested similar support in the following year as well.
THE SITUATION
Deloitte provided temporary resources for a Hungarian service center of an international telecommunications company for tax services. Within the framework of our client’s Hungarian operations, they globally prepare VAT returns for the companies belonging to the corporate group, including the preparation of VAT returns for all group members operating in various European locations. As an international service center, our client offers an extensive benefits system to its employees, which includes access to several months of paternity leave and creative leave, which can necessarily cause a temporary shortage of resources on the company's side. Since the preparation of VAT returns is a monthly recurring task, it is critically important for our client to have workforce with the appropriate professional experience and English language skills constantly available.
THE SOLVE
Our client approached Deloitte in such a resource-constrained situation, with the task of initially providing temporary assistance over a 3-month period for the preparation of Hungarian and foreign (including Spanish, German, English, Turkish, Portuguese) VAT returns, as well as the professional review of returns prepared by junior colleagues, which also encompassed broader team leadership responsibilities. Additionally, our colleagues also provided support in general tax advisory tasks for our client.
THE IMPACT
After the rapid completion of administrative processes and a brief onboarding, our colleagues were already supporting the comprehensive execution of tax filing tasks on the client’s side within 2 weeks of the initial contact. Our client’s satisfaction is well demonstrated by the fact that the originally planned 3-month period eventually extended to nearly 1 year, and the number of the supporting team members also increased. Through our on-site support service, we are able to support our clients in such and similar projects with quick availability, high professional knowledge, and genuine added value.
