Deloitte announces support for the Business 20's One Global Women Empowerment platform
Singapore, 24 August 2022 – Deloitte announces its support of the One Global Women Empowerment (OGWE) platform launched by the Business 20’s (B20) Women in Business Action Council (WIBAC). This new digital platform was unveiled during the B20-G20 Dialogue on 23 August 2022 on women’s empowerment in the global economy in Indonesia with the goal of helping more women lead, participate in, and expand access to business and economic opportunities.
As highlighted by the WIBAC, women remain under-represented in the global economy due to various forms of discrimination, which has been exaggerated by the COVID-19 pandemic. The mission of the OGWE is to connect relevant stakeholders in business, civil society, government, and the investor community with the aim of accelerating and scaling existing networks and initiatives that promote the inclusion of women and women-led businesses in the global economy.
Through this new platform OGWE will showcase how digitalization can address end-to-end needs, including access to digital skills development, facilitate access to cross-border financing, link women to leadership development and training as well as provide support and access to coaching and other technical assistance for women-led business.
“We are committed to supporting knowledge sharing through OGWE to help empower women in the workforce, including women-led micro small and medium enterprises (MSME),” said Punit Renjen, Deloitte Global CEO. “As a purpose-led organization deeply committed to making an impact that matters, we believe that leading the way on the complex challenges that stand in the way of gender balance in wider society is not just the right thing to do but the right business thing to do.”
Speaking at the B20-G20 Dialogue Nicole Scoble-Williams, Deloitte Global Future of Work Leader, highlighted the many barriers to women’s economic inclusion and the potential that gender parity could entail, “Deloitte is committed to gender parity to help women, businesses and the economy excel. We envision a world in which both men and women are given equal opportunities to thrive in business, technology and innovation.”
The B20-G20 dialogue was officiated by the Honorable Minister Bintang Puspayoga, Minister of Women Empowerment and Child Protection, Indonesia. Participants included high-ranking public officials from the G20 jurisdictions, business leaders and philanthropists. Deloitte is a Knowledge Partner of B20 WIBAC with a focus on enabling women’s participation in the global economy through actionable policy recommendations.
Editor’s Note
The B20-G20 Dialogue highlighted the policy recommendations developed by the B20 WIBAC. These recommendations included initiatives to empowering women entrepreneurs, enabling women’s digital and leadership capabilities and promoting safe and equitable workplaces.
Under the Indonesian G20 Presidency, WIBAC recommends actionable steps that G20 governments can take to improve gender equality in the workforce as well as practical steps to scale women-led businesses. By implementing these recommendations, the goal is to support job creation and help further spur social and economic development. The policy actions seek to not only address gender parity, if holistically implemented, but to also have a multiplier effect and significantly boost the global economy.
