Deloitte Greenhouse: Singapore
One-Company “Data Democracy”
An aerospace company moves from being data-rich to being data-smart
The client’s challenge
Given the nature of the aerospace business, inventory management, forecasting and predictive work-scoping are critical to operational success. With the industry becoming increasingly competitive in recent years, it is of great importance to streamline processes for maximum efficiency and safety, and minimal wastage. The company looked to Deloitte Singapore to gain foresight into emerging trends, and understand how to better leverage data analytics to forecast sales and optimize resource allocation.
Deloitte’s solution
The Deloitte Greenhouse team designed an interactive half-day Analytics Lab for the senior management team to explore the “art of the possible” with analytics and implement data-driven decision making. Twenty-five leaders spanning businesses and functions across the organization attended the lab, held at the Deloitte Greenhouse facility in Singapore. The lab featured prototypes and solutions showcasing the latest analytical techniques, visual case studies, visioning exercises on the future state of the company’s analytics journey, and a brainstorming session for participants to identify pilot analytics projects. Using the Greenhouse’s interactive technology, the team showcased three analytics solutions: Time Series Forecasting, Vendor Spend Visualizations, and MRO Predictive Analytics. These solutions address key challenges with sales forecasting, inventory forecasting, vendor management, resource allocation and automating repair/replace decisions.
Participants were also exposed to fast cycle analytics implementation and visualization best practices, before reflecting the key business problems of the company that could be solved by analytics. Having articulated the client’s needs and challenges, the client and Deloitte teams collaboratively developed strawman outlines of possible analytics projects.
Impact on client’s business
The combination of expert facilitation, subject matter expertise, and interactive content gave the company’s management a broad view of how data analytics can improve processes and decision making. The exposure to various case studies and the Greenhouse environment also stimulated productive discussions. As a result, the management team identified four analytics pilot initiatives which address the four key business problems facing the company.
According to the Managing Director of the group that participated in the Analytics Lab: “I liked the approach you guys are using to present the idea – much better than just a PowerPoint. Starting with the room, intuitive visual aids, and interactive sessions – I think it really opened us up to the art of the possible….really good approach.”
