Be a transformation catalyst in SAP implementation

After my post-graduate studies, I knew I wanted a career where I could grow. I also knew that it had to be technology-oriented, challenge me every day, and give me opportunities to travel and understand different cultures and industries.

Consulting was the answer to my career aspirations, so the next steps were to join a reputable company, gain exposure and build a good foundation. Although I was apprehensive as I was new to Consulting, the team I worked with was tightly-knit and supportive. Our seniors and mentors helped to integrate us into our project teams and Deloitte as a whole. They also guided us through challenges and difficulties.

I have realised that no matter how tough the project, we as Deloitte will always ensure that outcomes are delivered. We support our clients through thick and thin.

My advice to new joiners would be to keep challenging yourself, move ahead and do your best. When you work on projects, collaborate with everyone on the team to find a solution. As long as you are willing to learn and take on responsibilities, the opportunities here are immense.

I decided to join Deloitte as it was one of the first to implement the latest technology in SAP’s Data Warehouse solution in Indonesia.

Deloitte Southeast Asia is a seamless regional practice, and the first project I worked on was one that was based in another country. Even then, back in 2018, I was able to work remotely instead of on-site. I think that’s why we, as a firm, managed to adapt to remote working so quickly when the pandemic hit in 2020.

In all the projects I’ve been in, I’ve observed that we make an effort to use the latest innovations and methods whenever possible. I also like that the Deloitte community takes the initiative to give back. Here in Indonesia, we run a book donation drive for schools as well as a trash recycling project.

Deloitte provides plenty of opportunities. Here, it's easy to learn from different teams. You can be in the sales distribution team one day, then join the finance or procurement team the next. Although I started out in SAP BI, I have since worked on Distribution Management projects and at the Project Management Office. Here at Deloitte, it’s important that everyone understands their value and potential, and be open to change.

Contrary to what I had expected, people work and play hard here. I’m amazed at how funny and friendly everyone is, though of course they’re very professional when the situation calls for it. I’m also able to reach subject matter experts and my coach easily, and they are all very supportive. There are also plenty of learning opportunities.

Once, my team ran into an issue while working on a project. With the deadline looming, I’d thought: ‘Oh no, guess we won’t sleep, then.’ But to my surprise, our team leader told us to stop, take a break and continue the next day. He then managed to find experts within Deloitte who advised us and suggested a more efficient approach.

We do our best to support our clients through structured solutions and ethical approaches. We stay true to our values and are transparent with our clients, so we can provide a solution that is most beneficial for them. I find this to be a very inspired way of working.
