Deloitte sparks innovation amongst students in the ASEAN Risk Intelligence Challenge 2018
Jakarta, Indonesia, 15 July 2018 – Team Monopoly from Thailand emerged as champions in the Deloitte ASEAN Risk Intelligence Challenge (RIC) 2018 competition at Deloitte Indonesia office. The winning team wowed the judges with an impressive business pitch which truly encompassed RIC’s theme for this edition “Rethinking Digital, Rewriting change”, the theme for this year’s intervarsity challenge.
RIC, a Deloitte initiative held for the fifth time, is designed to promote risk awareness amongst learning institutions by engaging undergraduates across Southeast Asia via introducing them to today’s risk issues faced by organisations as businesses continue to get disrupted by external market forces. The competition also aimed to encourage participants’ independent learning via logical and creative thinking.
As part of the challenge, participants went through an intensive 3-hour ASEAN RIC Boot Camp on 14 July, facilitated by Samuel Cammiss, Innovation Director for Deloitte Southeast Asia. During the workshop, participants gained a deeper understanding of the implications of trends and risks, management of risks, and a broader perspective in the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
Their enhanced understanding of risk paved the way for refining their final case presentations on Day 2, 15 July where the six teams across Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines and Vietnam battled it out to emerge champions.
Dr. Janson Yap, Regional Managing Partner, Risk Advisory, Deloitte Southeast Asia said, “The RIC resonates with Deloitte’s spirit of innovation whereby participants are required to use their acumen and creativity to think out-of-the-box for applicable business solutions. It also provides them a platform to broaden their perspective on risks and it is a good test of their aptitude and knowledge as individuals and as a team in this exciting informative two-day challenge.”
Claudia Lauw Lie Hoeng, Country Leader of Deloitte Indonesia shared, “RIC has helped us to uncover some hidden talents. As potential future business leaders, it is important for students to understand the importance of risk and how it may continue to impact the future of businesses in Southeast Asia.”
“More importantly, we want to provide students with a valuable internship experience in Deloitte and inspire them to think about how risks may potentially impact them as they take on leadership roles in their future careers”, she added.
The Champions of the ASEAN RIC 2018 took home US$2,500 cash prize, trophies and internship opportunities at Deloitte. The 1st Runner-up team of ASEAN RIC 2018, Team Bullish from Vietnam received US$1,500 cash prize and trophies.
The best speakers’ awards were also presented to Fajar Sagita Oendiarto from Institut Teknologi Bandung, Indonesia and Pichapa Tiramanit from Thammasat University, Thailand. This category is specially created to recognise the individuals’ exceptional presentation skills and style.
