Southeast Asia Space Industry Report
Space to Thrive: Southeast Asia's Space Industry on the Rise
Southeast Asia's space industry is on the rise. While the region has developed capabilities across the value chain, Deloitte projects that the analysis and application of satellite data across the region's key industries will drive US$100 billion of GDP contribution by 2030.
This report was authored in collaboration with Singapore Space & Technology Ltd
Space has the potential to unlock US$100 billion in economic value contribution across Southeast Asia between 2023 and 2030. Earth observation (EO), the practice of collecting and analysing satellite data, is at the forefront of creating value across industries, including those ostensibly unrelated to space. Southeast Asian businesses are finding novels means of applying satellite data to their everyday challenges.
Whether it be a Thai rice farmer using satellite analysis to improve agricultural productivity or a Malaysian real estate developer using satellite imagery for site selection, earth observation is set to revolutionise businesses, leading to significant opportunities for productivity increases and cost avoidance. This report, developed in collaboration with Singapore Space Technology Limited, highlights key trends in ASEAN’s space ecosystem and outlines opportunities for private sector players to lead in this evolving landscape.

While EO is set to provide benefits across industries, land intensive industries are poised to benefit the most, with the Agriculture, Mining, Oil & Gas, and Electricity & Utilities, and Government & Public Services sectors poised to capture the majority of EO's added GDP contribution. The benefits of EO are likely to be felt indirectly across the entirety of the regional economy, as industries like Financial Services & Insurance leverage improved risk modelling, enhance ESG compliance, optimise supply chain financing, and innovate in microinsurance solutions.
