Internship Diaries: Mandi, from Marketing Operations

Mandi talks about her Internship experience and Deloitte's culture of inclusion

“Deloitte practices a true Culture of Inclusion!”

A culture of inclusion is an ethos every company seems to have, but in many cases, this is the case in theory and not in practice. From day one of the Development Internship Programme, Deloitte practised a true culture of inclusion. As someone who comes from a very different career background to professional services as well as a different culture and society, the level of inclusion at Deloitte never made me feel that way. I saw very quickly that this drive towards inclusion was not just part of the Firm’s brand, but something every employee lives by.

Shortly after I started with the C&I team, we had a large “All Hands” meeting where all new joiners were introduced to the Team. There was such an incredibly warm welcome from our Chief Marketing and Sales Officer Nikki Gibney to all of us.

A few weeks after this, our Chief Executive Officer Harry Goddard held a webinar to welcome all new staff to the firm. What really impressed me was how Harry spoke as though he knew each of us personally and really made us feel included. As I progressed through my onboarding, I noticed a trend of inclusivity in each of the eLearning courses I took, which showed me just how embedded it is.

I started my internship when COVID restrictions were still in effect and my onboarding was fully online. Everything from getting set up with a laptop to meeting my colleagues was done remotely. At first, I was very nervous and expected this to be really challenging, but every time I encountered a problem my colleagues (especially my Buddy, Conor Briody) were so helpful.

The Marketing Operations Team has been amazing to work with. Each Monday, I have a one-to-one check-in with my Manager and Assistant Manager which focuses not only on work but also on my personal and professional development. I have learned many skills such as advanced Excel and how to use the Salesforce CRM.

Thankfully, as restrictions have lifted I have had the opportunity to attend the office a few times and get to meet my colleagues and other interns face-to-face.
