Deloitte announces 2013 Technology Fast 500™ EMEA rankings

Ireland achieves 14 places on ranking

Average company growth rate nearly 1,500 percent, with software sector leading rankings.

Fourteen Irish companies feature on the Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited (DTTL) Global Technology, Media & Telecommunications (TMT) industry group’s 2013 Technology Fast 500TM EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) rankings. ezetop, the company which enables people living or working abroad to instantly top up mobile phones of friends and family back home and winner of the 2013 Deloitte Ireland Technology Fast 50, was the top ranked Irish company at number 36. The company achieved a growth rate of 3630% over the last five years.

Eleven companies from the Republic of Ireland and three from Northern Ireland feature on this year’s ranking. The top ranked company from Northern Ireland was Sixteen South, which featured at number 68. The overall winner of the Technology Fast 500 was French digital cinema specialists Ymagis with an impressive growth rate of 59,096 percent. Ymagis is driving the digital cinema revolution in Europe, helping its partners to make the transition from traditional 35mm film to a more efficient digital solution. For the fourth consecutive year French companies dominated the programme rankings, producing 86 winning companies, followed by the United Kingdom with 71 companies, and the Netherlands with 52 companies qualifying for the list.

Now in its 13th year, the annual Deloitte Technology Fast 500 TM  programme ranks the fastest growing public and private technology, media, telecommunications, life sciences, and clean technology companies from 24 countries in the EMEA region, based on percentage revenue growth over a five-year period. This year’s Fast 500 list had an overall average revenue growth rate of 1,403 percent, a slight decrease from the 1,549 percent growth rate for 2012. This year the programme received more than 1,000 submissions.

France had a strong presence with two companies in this year’s top ten ranking. Israel also had significant presence with three companies placing in the top ten.

Sector trends

The software sector represented 43 percent of the overall rankings on this year’s Fast 500, followed by the Internet sector with 22 percent. Rounding out the sector list was Telecommunications/Networking (15 percent), Semiconductors/Components/Electronics (7 percent), Biotech/Pharmaceutical/Medical Equipment (5 percent), Greentech (3 percent), Media/Entertainment (3 percent), and Computers/Peripherals (2 percent).

About the Deloitte Technology Fast 500™ EMEA

Technology Fast 500, conducted by Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited (DTTL), provides a ranking of the fastest growing technology, media, telecommunications and green technology companies – both public and private - in Europe, Middle East & Africa. Technology Fast 500 award winners are selected based on percentage fiscal year revenue growth from 2009 to 2013.

In order to be eligible for Technology Fast 500 recognition, companies must own proprietary intellectual property or technology that is sold to customers in products that contribute to a majority of the company's operating revenues. Companies must have base-year operating revenues of at least €50,000 EUROS, and current-year operating revenues of at least €800,000 EUROS. Additionally, companies must be in business for a minimum of five years, and be headquartered within Europe, Middle East & Africa.
