Life at Deloitte
"I think what sets Deloitte aside from other companies is the focus it places on its people and the opportunities this presents"
When did you join Deloitte and why did you decide to go for the position?
I first joined Deloitte in January 2011 for 9 months as part of the Co-op programme from University of Limerick. On completion of my Co-op I was offered a graduate contract which commenced in September 2012. After researching the range of services offered by Corporate Finance, I felt it was an area I would be interested in.
What do you enjoy about your role?
I enjoy the fact that no two days are ever the same within the department. Every project we work on is different and because of this I get to learn a lot about different customers and the areas they operate in.
What were your first impressions and how easy did you find it to become integrated?
I remember walking into the office on my first day and quickly realising how lucky I was to be given such an opportunity. The whole atmosphere in the office was very welcoming and it made the integration much easier. The training provided with the other trainees across the different offices at the start of my contract was also really beneficial.
What would you say is particularly good/different/exciting about working at Deloitte?
As I progressed through my training contract, I have found the support available around exams and professional education was very helpful. I think what makes Deloitte an exciting place to work is the constant exposure to huge clients across a range of sectors. If you think of any large Irish or multinational company it is highly probable that Deloitte have worked with them at some point in time. I think what sets Deloitte aside from other companies is the focus it places on its people and the opportunities this presents. Deloitte are very good at assisting and supporting people in their career development whatever that may be. I have been lucky enough to be sent on a number of secondments throughout my time here which have allowed me to gain exposure and experience to other lines of work. I think Deloitte also differs in that there are always opportunities to transfer departments and even countries for various lengths of time.
What is the best part about working in Deloitte?
Without doubt the best part about working with Deloitte are the people. The people you work with make the challenging days easier and are always there as a support no matter how big or small the problem.
How would you like your career to go from here, are you interested in travel for example?
At the moment I am really happy in my role. Travel isn’t really something that attracts me, for work purposes anyway. But we will have to wait and see.
