Mark Reilly, Associate in Audit & Advisory
Why did you choose Deloitte?
I studied accounting at university, so entering the profession seemed like a natural progression. I had the opportunity to gain some insight into working at Deloitte during the summer of my second year at university. Everyone was very friendly and I enjoyed my time here so decided to join once I had graduated!
What were your first impressions and how easy did you find it to become integrated?
At first it can be a little daunting meeting new people and having new responsibilities. However, the firm’s structured approach made this less burdensome. By getting to know your year group and joining in the discussion at team meetings, it is easy to become integrated with your peers and the wider team.
What do you enjoy most about your role within the Audit & Advisory department?
I enjoy the range of clients that I have the opportunity to work with. These include manufacturing companies, service providers and Government bodies. I particularly enjoy the mix of client interaction, team work and technical knowledge. No two days are the same!
What advice would you have for other students and graduates seeking to pursue a similar career path?
The demands of balancing work and study can be tough so my advice would be to do a ‘little and often.’ The training in Audit & Advisory is a great way to gain exposure to a wide range of clients and staff. It allows you to put the theory that you have learned in the lecture theatre into practice. I would highly recommend my chosen career path to anyone else with a serious business interest.
