Life as an Actuarial Graduate

Since studying Financial Mathematics and Actuarial Science in University College Cork, I knew that I wanted to take the actuarial route, but was unsure about what line of work I wanted to do. The graduate programme at Deloitte offered opportunities to work in both life and non-life insurance work. The prospect of working in both practices was a key factor when I applied to work here.

Since joining the Actuarial, Rewards and Analytics department a year ago, I have worked on numerous different projects, which have incorporated multiple aspects of both audit and consultancy work.

Projects so far have included modelling, testing and data analysis. The wide variety of work has exposed me to specialist areas, whilst building a foundation of basic actuarial skills.

Working with numerous projects has helped my understanding and studying for the actuarial exams. There is a mix of student and qualified actuaries on the team, and we enjoy plenty of social outings such as hikes, swimming and nights out. There are also regular events with the Society of Actuaries Ireland, which include socials, balls and quiz nights.
