What's the work like?

The role essentially deals with providing transformation solutions to improve the client's finance functions. Examples include:

  • Overhauling the operational finance processes such as Order to Cash, Procure to Pay, Record to Report cycles, budgeting, planning and forecasting. This could also involve implementation of an ERP solution in the form of SAP S/4 HANA
  • Improving the finance strategy and operation model
  • Implementation of Global Business Service solutions
  • CFO workshops
  • Improving finance strategies and service delivery model designs
Overview of the team and culture?

The Finance and Performance team consists of 80+ employees and is part of the Enterprise and Technology Consulting division at Deloitte. The team works with multiple clients, providing them with solutions to business issues and challenges.

Soon after joining, I had the good fortune to be a part of the last ‘All Hands’ event for 2019 which was a quarterly get-together of the F&P team to discuss the latest projects being worked on and the progress made by various sub-teams. It also included fun elements and Christmas announcements. There was also an update by our partner about the future and the direction for the F&P team, followed by an evening of socializing over drinks. It was a fun way to get to know the team and be welcomed to the family.

Have you had any development opportunities since joining?

Deloitte recognized my background in SAP user experience and aligned my trainings in that order. In my first month, I took part in an immersive and comprehensive classroom training conducted by SAP, helping me increase my knowledge in my field of specialization. The emphasis on personal development means that there are many online resources available for self-paced learning, as well as a number of social and sports societies for those interested.

Any advice for someone coming for an interview on the team?

The most important piece of advice would be to be yourself and answer honestly. The interviewers are looking for a good fit into Deloitte’s culture along with the necessary technical knowhow. It is fundamental to be familiar with the values and culture of the organization and the competencies required by the role, and align them with your personal values and experience.

What’s next for you and your career?

I’d like to travel for projects, network and meet new people at our social events, and contribute to new and challenging work to the best of my abilities. I also aim to work on a variety of different engagements to gain experience in the various solutions provided to our clients.
