Life at Deloitte

Aisling Hogan

Manager, Tax

Aisling is part of the Private Clients Tax & Legal Department, a qualified solicitor and a registered member of the Law Society of Ireland. Find out how Aisling's career has developed and what it's like to work as a Tax consultant.

What does a typical day look like in your role?

My role as a solicitor and tax advisor working in the Private Client Tax Department involves looking at a variety of tax and legal issues and as no two client's problems will be the same, this means no two days are ever the same.

What attracted you to Deloitte as a career move? What development opportunities have you had since joining?

The reputation and international presence the firm has first attracted me. I knew it would be challenging but rewarding work, filled with opportunity to succeed and exceptional experiences. Of all the opportunities, I am fortunate that Deloitte offered me the chance to study for and complete my tax qualification to become an Irish Chartered Tax Advisor.

What you put into Deloitte, you will receive back! The firm has a wonderful culture for you to enjoy so participation is all facets is key to a successful experience here.

What advice would you give someone coming for an interview on the team, and what can new joiners expect from their first few days at Deloitte?

Be prepared for the role you are interviewing for. If there are further qualifications you need for the role or goals you wish to achieve, know about the process and the challenges and be able to speak confidently on these. Be yourself - from interview to day-to-day working life - our people are friendly, helpful and encouraging and there is a great culture of inclusiveness in Deloitte.

What is it about your role/industry that keeps you interested?

The annual Budget together with global developments means that our legislation is constantly evolving and we need to be on top of the changes to provide insights and advice to our clients. Every client has a particular set of circumstances and my work means I have an opportunity to help clients when they need it most, and dispel some of their worries or concerns.

Working in a multi-disciplinary department where we can combine tax, legal and accounting skills/perspectives to really provide composite solutions for clients gives me an enormous sense of pride and achievement after a job well done.
