Pamela Carey – DCU
I undertook an 8 month work placement in Technology Consulting in Deloitte as part of my undergraduate degree in Enterprise Computing. After reflecting on my experience I could not have chosen a better company. There is a unique characteristic about everyone who works in Deloitte – their friendliness. The internship gave me the opportunity to meet and work alongside so many nice, talented and enthusiastic people in such a vibrant, friendly environment. There was always a helping hand and support for any question - big or small. Not only did my internship in Deloitte broaden my knowledge in the Technology industry, it also allowed me to develop both my professional and personal skills which will be invaluable to me as I embark on my career path after college.
Ben Dale - DCU
I am currently studying a Masters in Accounting in DCU, and will be joining Deloitte in autumn 2014 after I complete my masters. I play soccer for the DCU Senior Soccer team also, and we were All Ireland runners up last year. I worked in the Small and Medium Enterprise Services department in Deloitte as an intern in the summer of 2012. I had a really positive experience whilst working there which is why I was delighted when they offered me my graduate contract at the end of the internship.
James Treanor - DCU
I am currently studying Accounting and Finance in DCU. I have three brothers and sisters which includes two sets of twins (myself and my twin, along with twin sisters). During the summer of 2013, I undertook an internship in the Tax department of Deloitte which was of huge benefit to me. It was extremely enjoyable, in particular the people I worked with, who were both very friendly and welcoming. While the work was challenging, everyone was willing to help and answer my questions (lots of them!).
Oisin Farrell - NUI Galway
I am currently in my final year of Commerce (Accounting), but intend to complete a masters next year before I begin my graduate career. I am originally from Longford and have a keen interest in the GAA. I completed an internship with Deloitte during the summer and subsequently received a trainee contract. I worked within the Audit department and Deloitte was a great firm to work for. It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience and I would highly recommend it to anyone.
Sonia Nairn - NUI Galway
I am currently studying a Masters in Accounting in NUI Galway. I thoroughly enjoyed my three month internship at Deloitte. The approachability and friendliness of everyone from the trainees to partners really stood out. Questions were encouraged and I never felt out of place asking for help. During my internship, I had the opportunity to go on a two week audit, which gave me a great insight into the type of work I would undertake as a graduate. Getting to experience this, combined with the friendly people, professional training, and work-life balance offered made it a very easy decision to decide to join as a graduate, and I look forward to starting in autumn 2014.
Aoibheann Brady - TCD
I am a final year Mathematics student in TCD. I worked for the past two summers in the Valuations and Banking Advisory team in Deloitte, and will join the firm full-time next summer as part of the same team. I am the chairperson of the university's Mathematical Society, a cycling fanatic (a founding member of the Deloitte Cycling Club) and my hair colour is about as changeable as the Irish weather!
Aideen Fennell - TCD
I am a final year student in Business and Economics (BESS) in TCD. I was one of six Irish representatives at the Deloitte International Student Business Forum in March 2012 and was part of the winning team in the case study challenge. This event was my most exciting, insightful learning experience to date. Following that, I joined Deloitte in Dublin for a 12 week internship gaining experience in Consulting and Audit. I will join Deloitte upon completion of my degree. Music and drama are my main passions in life. My current sporting aim is to be able to do a 360 degree roll in kayaking. My childhood ambition was to become either a movie star, garda or postman!
Barry McCarthy – UCC
I'm a final year BSc Accounting student in UCC. I first came to Deloitte in June 2012 and took part in the 6 week Tax internship programme. I joined the Financial Services service line for my internship and instantly developed a fondness for Taxation as a potential career. Returning to Deloitte again in January 2013 as a Tax co-op was an easy decision for me as the people orientated and friendly environment attracted me to Deloitte, not only for my co-op work placement but as a company where I could potentially train and nurture a career. For my co-op placement I returned to the Financial Services team before moving to the new Corporation Tax Compliance Centre in March. Between March and August, my typical working day consisted of preparing corporation tax computations and reports for some major multinational companies. Since returning to UCC in September, I can see instantly how the experience I gained at Deloitte will stand to me for my final year modules. Next year, I hope to complete a masters in Accounting before re-joining Deloitte for the third time in September 2015.
Alison Kenny – UCD
I am a final year Business and Law student in UCD. I am from Longford and I completed a 12 week internship in Deloitte in the Tax department in summer 2013. I began working in Corporation Tax but after a couple of weeks I transferred to the Capital Taxation department. I will return to the Capital Taxation department in autumn 2014 where I will start work as an apprentice solicitor while undertaking the Law Society exams and the Irish Taxation Institute qualification.
Conor Scally – UCD
I am currently in my final year of Commerce at UCD. I completed a 14 week internship during the summer in Deloitte’s Audit department. During my time there I gained valuable experience working in the company and as part of a team. I recently received a graduate offer to return once my degree is completed, with the aim to complete my ACA exams in the future. My main interests are in sports and I have been involved in a wide variety of activities including boxing and rugby.
Noel Gavin - UL
I am currently in my final year of Law and Accounting in UL. I undertook an eight month work placement in the Tax department last year as part of my undergraduate degree. This allowed me to experience the complex world of tax, more specifically the taxation of income and capital assets. Acting as a tax agent for private individuals who value your opinion and trust in you to provide them with the most current available tax-saving solutions has provided me with the skills and knowledge required to prepare full income tax returns for self-assessed individuals. My experience at Deloitte was very positive and I believe this was a result of the open and friendly environment within the organisation. I intend to complete a Masters in accounting next year before returning to Deloitte in 2015 to fulfil my trainee contract.
