1. What I like most about my role
My role is diverse and challenging on a day to day basis. My clients are some of the world’s best known brand names. This combination is what I like most about my role in Deloitte.
2. What attracted me to Deloitte
I wanted to work for a firm with a strong people culture, where I would get exceptional experience by working with and learning from the best people and with the very best clients. Joining Deloitte made sense!
3. What I didn’t know but wish I knew before joining
It was a very welcome surprise to learn that Deloitte offers a Deloitte Dot recognition scheme during the training contract. Each green dot is worth €25 and the dots can be exchanged at the end of the year for a prepaid Mastercard.
4. My day-to-day role
Since joining Deloitte in 2010, no two days have been the same. The more experience I get, the more varied and interesting my work becomes. As for the variety of work I do, it’s terrific. From advising on large corporate re-organisations to assisting the Irish Rugby Football Union with Ireland’s bid to host the Rugby World Cup in 2023. My work is always challenging and exciting.
5. How I have been able to make an impact in my role
Since joining Deloitte, each year I have participated in ‘IMPACT Day’ - a Deloitte worldwide initiative where our people volunteer to devote one working day to a project that has a direct and positive impact on society. I have thoroughly enjoyed participating in this corporate socially responsible initiative and found the experiences to be extremely beneficial.
6. What else I have been involved with since joining
I regularly attend conferences and training and development courses around Europe as well as client and alumni events locally during the year. Both networking and travel are parts of my job that I very much enjoy.
7. Deloitte’s role in my longer term career goals
Deloitte fosters a culture of career-long learning offering opportunities for training and development at every stage. That combined with its fantastic people culture makes it possible for everyone to work together to deliver the highest quality of client service. This has helped me reach senior manager level within a six year period and continues to help me in my continued progression within the firm.
8. What I have enjoyed most
I constantly strive to increase trainee knowledge of indirect tax through case law learning sessions, knowledge sharing and training on particular topics. I really enjoy this element of my role and get great satisfaction from seeing the trainee group continue to develop under my guidance and support.
