Looking forward to 2018 - General Data Protection Regulation

The new General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”) has been voted into law by the European Parliament.

As a regulation the GDPR is directly applicable in EU member states and it aims to remove red tape for businesses but also tighten privacy protections for online users.

The GDPR was published in the Official Journal of the EU on the 4 May 2016. There will be a two year transition period before its full entry into force, it will apply from May 2018.
