Our Sustainability Ambition

From internal frameworks to client support, we are working to put sustainability at the heart of our business.

Climate change is one of the greatest challenges facing humanity and every individual and organisation has an important role to play in limiting its effects.

In 2020, Deloitte globally launched WorldClimate, our strategy to drive responsible climate choices within our organization and beyond. Recognising that change starts from within, at Deloitte Ireland we introduced the following sustainability commitments:

Net Zero by 2030: We are committed to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2030 for our own operations, ahead of the 2050 timeframe set by the Paris Agreement. Developed in line with the Paris Agreement’s 1.5 degrees Celsius scenario, our GHG reduction goals have been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

Embed Sustainability: In partnership with our affiliate Member Firm Deloitte North and South Europe (NSE), we developed a framework detailing how each geography can achieve our ambition across areas such as real estate, energy and resource efficiency, business travel, procurement and biodiversity etc. We use a consolidated approach across Deloitte NSE for our annual carbon reporting and collectively achieved limited assurance on our FY21 GHG emissions data. Through our investment in market solutions for offsetting, in FY20 we achieved carbon neutrality in relation to our operational and business travel emissions. We will offset our FY21 operational and value chain emissions.

Engage ecosystems: We acknowledge that the business community needs to work together to tackle global challenges such as climate change, and this year Deloitte Ireland renewed its commitment to the enhanced Business in the Community’s Low Carbon Pledge which asks signatory companies to commit to set science- based carbon emissions reduction targets by 2024, which must include their entire carbon footprint (Scope 1, 2 & 3) and be in line with the Paris Agreement and the latest Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) findings. To date 65 Irish based companies have made this commitment.

In response to the ever-changing landscape surrounding sustainability and ESG (environmental, social, governance), Deloitte Ireland supports our clients to identify, assess, understand and navigate their sustainability risks in order to combat climate change and create opportunities and competitive advantage in the market. Our multidisciplinary team is passionate about sustainability and is dedicated to providing support and solutions to the challenges that organisations face in a modern, competitive and digital market.

Empower individuals: By engaging and educating our employees on climate change impacts—decisions about what they consume, use, and buy—we are committed to enabling our people to make positive climate choices at home and at work, and amplify these through their personal networks.

“We need to really challenge ourselves to embed sustainability in every decision we make, both big and small, in our home life and in our work life.”
