The Business Working Responsibly Mark, operated by Business in the Community Ireland (BITCI), is the leading business sustainability certification in Ireland.
We are committed to doing business in the right way. One clear way in which we demonstrate our commitment to being a purpose led organisation is our external accreditation to the Business Working Responsibly Mark (BWR Mark). This is a leading standard for sustainability that fosters a culture of continuous improvement, ongoing accountability, and leadership, and is verified by the National Standards Authority of Ireland (NSAI).
There are only 45 organisations accredited to the BWR mark in Ireland, and Deloitte has had continuous accreditation since 2013. The accreditation process involves a rigorous audit-based assessment carried out to understand businesses and how responsible practices are embedded in everything they do.
The seven-step process involves in-depth interviews with senior leadership and one-to-one interviews with employees across all levels and departments to ensure responsible business is an authentic part of the culture. Among the many teams that contributed to the process were Risk and Legal, Social Impact, Inclusion, Internal Sustainability, Procurement, HR, Health and Safety, Communications, and Clients and Industries.
The BWR Mark, which is based on ISO 26000, is regularly updated to incorporate current best practices from internationally recognised standards and guidance including the UN Sustainable Development Goals, the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), the Social Accountability International SA8000 standard, and other relevant ISO standards. This fosters excellence in corporate responsibility and sustainability practices.
Continually improving management systems is integral to accreditation, with good governance as the foundation in three key areas:
“Our role as a responsible business in driving positive change is one that we take very seriously. The choices we make are the ones we believe will make a positive impact for our clients, community, people, and planet. Receiving the BWR Mark is a strong external validation of those choices and gives us the confidence to move forward and increase our impact.”
- Harry Goddard, CEO, Deloitte Ireland
On completion of the rigorous process over a number of months, we were thrilled to receive the accreditation once again and publicly showcase our commitment to being a responsible business.
