Meet the Sustainability Team - Brian Jackson

Now our 'Meet the Sustainability Team' series turns to Brian Jackson - COO, Cork native and sports lover.
Commitment to WorldClimate
Being COO for Deloitte Ireland and leading on our WorldClimate commitments is a big responsibility and one I take very seriously. I recognise that that none of us can do this alone but if we can build momentum, at work, at home and in our communities, we can truly make an impact that matters.
A Cork native
I grew up in Cork. Everyone who I have met from Cork always starts an introduction with ‘I’m originally from Cork’ and I am no different. I am approaching a key milestone in my life where I will have lived in Dublin for longer than I lived in Cork. I am not going to lie, that hurts. My wife and I have three kids, all under 10 and it is busy every day. I love the seaside, rugby and golf. I suspect my kids do too. Some of them just don’t know it yet.
Driving our internal sustainability agenda
I play two key roles in Deloitte. Firstly, I am a Partner, focusing on serving clients in the Financial Services industry. In particular, I work with clients in the Investment Management and Real Estate sectors. Both sectors have key roles to play in tackling the climate change challenge and that motivates me on a daily basis. Secondly, I am the COO for Deloitte Ireland and a member of the Firm’s Executive. As COO, I have responsibility for delivering on our World Climate commitments and driving our internal sustainability agenda.

Collaborating across the Deloitte network
I have been fortunate to have had many career highlights in the last 20 years with Deloitte. Being appointed partner in 2012 meant a huge amount to me. However, nothing has challenged me the way taking on the COO role did in 2019. The reward is that I get to work with a fantastic team in Ireland and across the network to drive change in areas that I really am passionate about. At the top of this list is Sustainability - I want to be able to look back in 20 years and know that we made a real difference.
A responsibility to work everyday to make the future a better place than it is today
I find inspiration everywhere. From my kids, from my parents, from the thousands of random interactions that I have in any given week. My mother turned 65 this year. When my youngest son is 65, I will be 100. I think about what the world will be like in 2080 and I feel that everyone of us have an absolute responsibility to work everyday to make it a better place than it is today.
Brian's vision for the future?
My vision is really simple. I want my children and my grandchildren to be able to look back with pride and gratitude for the actions we take today. I want them to be proud of us. For being bold, for being brave, for putting future generations ahead of our own and in so doing, restore the balance between nature and humanity, and give each child born on this planet and fair and equitable chance to create their own future.
