Paul is a Director within our Actuarial team having specific responsibilities for the non-life aspect of our team. Paul is a qualified Actuary with 20 years of actuarial work experience across the domestic and international (re)insurance markets. Paul is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries in Ireland and the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries in the UK. He is a member of the Society of Actuaries General Insurance Committee of the Society.

Paul joined Deloitte in 2018 and previously held various senior positions within the Actuarial teams of his previous companies. During his previous work experience, Paul has gained extensive experience in Reserve valuation, Pricing, Solvency II Technical Provision valuation and Solvency II SCR calculation both with Internal Models and the Standard Formula.
Paul is approved to act as the Head of Actuarial Function by the Central Bank of Ireland and was previously a Signing Actuary for Statement of Actuarial Opinions. Paul is also currently the Approved Group Actuary for the non-life business for an international company based in Bermuda. He has been involved in the calculation and setting of reserves throughout his working life. This has involved many different classes of business in both insurance and reinsurance.

Paul was heavily involved in the implementation of Solvency and in particular the development and validation of Internal Models. This includes the construction and building of the model along with the governance surrounding it. In addition he has experience in calculating Technical Provisions under solvency II. He also has experience in developing and challenging ORSA documentation. He has provided numerous Solvency II training programmes to Boards and various committees on different aspects of solvency 2.

Paul has held senior pricing and underwriting roles for both insurers and Reinsurers covering both short tail and long tail classes of business and was the Chief Pricing Actuary of the Global Insurance portfolio for an international insurer. In addition to pricing these roles would have included in depth portfolio and aggregation management including the management of catastrophe exposures.

Paul has been responsible for maintaining the Economic Capital of the company in the past. In addition he has been involved in various capital optimisation exercises to determine the profitability of various classes of business and also to derive the most optimal reinsurance strategy. As part of this he was also responsible for implementing the business planning process and taking the above considerations into account. This includes providing advice on expanding and contracting lines of business to better fit risk appetite and return on capital.
