Ireland (4 April 2023) -  Immigration Service Delivery Scam Calls

IMPACT - MEDIUM

What is the change?

The Department of Justice has been notified that some members of the public have received scam calls claiming to be an ISD official. The Department of Justice wishes to clarify that members of the public will never be contacted regarding such matters by phone or SMS.

The Department of Justice is urging members of the public not to engage with these callers, not to return calls to these numbers, and not to share any personal information with these callers.

Key points:

  • Implementation time frame: 30 March 2023
  • Who is affected: Non-EEA nationals currently holding an Irish residence permission.
  • Next steps: We would advise all employers to ensure that their non-EEA national population is aware of this issue, if any employees have been impacted, they should notify ISD and An Gardai Siochana as soon as possible.
  • We would echo the Department of Justice’s request to not engage with these callers. As these calls appear to come from the same contact number as the ISD, it is important to remain vigilant.
