Embedding security into the public cloud DNA

Considerations for the public cloud migration journey

The cloud has emerged as the primary destination for organisations seeking to host their services and data. Many have already migrated, while others are actively planning their transition to cloud platforms. With its promise of accelerated time-to-production, increased automation, and optimised costs and performance, the cloud brings undeniable benefits. However, this new technology also poses security and compliance concerns that require attention.

The rapid adoption of cloud-native services and platforms has rendered traditional security approaches less effective, leading to two undesirable outcomes: 1) focus on speed and automation that overlooks security concerns by business and technology functions, or 2) cautious changes and delayed introduction of new functionalities by security and compliance functions, hindering the full potential of the cloud and impeding business competitiveness.

To overcome these challenges, organisations must establish a clear cloud risk management strategy that aligns with their overall cloud strategy, laying a crucial foundation where the objectives of business, technology, and security functions converge.

In this report, we offer recommendations for organisations to adopt a conscious and integrated approach, embedding security into their cloud DNA from the outset. We emphasise five key focus areas, empowering organisations to navigate the cloud landscape with confidence while optimising security and innovation.
