Industry impact: Telecommunications
- The Basic Customs Duty (BCD) rate on cellular mobile phones decreased from 20 percent to 15 percent, with effect from 24 July 2024.
- The BCD rate on Printed Circuit Board Assemblies (PCBA) of cellular mobile phones decreased from 20 percent to 15 percent, with effect from 24 July 2024.
- The BCD rate on charger/adapter of cellular mobile phones decreased from 20 percent to 15 percent, with effect from 24 July 2024.
- The BCD rate on PCBA of specified telecom equipment increased from 10 percent to 15 percent, with effect from 24 July 2024.
- Import exemption extended until 31 March 2026 for the following goods:
- Lithium-ion cells used in manufacturing batteries or battery packs of cellular mobile phone
- Moulds, tools and dies used in manufacturing parts of electronic components or electronic equipment
- Import of capital goods/machinery/measuring instruments for manufacturing semiconductor wafers will continue to be taxed at 10 percent for another five years, until 31 March 2029.
- Import of capital goods/machinery used by the IT/electronics industry, subject to actual user condition, will continue to be exempt/ 5 percent for another five years, until 31 March 2029.
- Import of specified raw materials, inputs and parts (such as automatic/semi-automatic assembling machine) used in manufacturing specified electronic items (such as connectors, resistors) will be exempt from the whole customs duty for another five years, until 31 March 2029.
