Rising Stars 2017 Winners
Platome and DTE
At the third Icelandic Fast 50 – Rising Star event held on 9 November the companies Platome and DTE were chosen by an independent panel of experts as the Rising Stars. Rising Star, is held in collaboration with the Confederation of Industries, Association of Women Business Leaders in Iceland and Innovation Center Iceland.
The winners will be invited to attend Slush in Helsinki which is held on 30 Nov. – 1 Dec.
Platome Biotechnology develops new ways to grow human cells. Human blood platelets are used to create a range of products and biochemical solutions that are used as feedstock for cells in laboratories. The aim is to make the development of cellular therapies both easier and safer. Their products are sold in units that are shipped globally to customers, mainly research institutes, biotech and pharmaceutical companies as well as cosmetic companies.
DTE makes the Portable Elemental Analyzer for the aluminum industry, replacing current sampling methods for process and quality control, saving millions of dollars in operating cost.
The Rising Star Jury chose in total 5 Rising Star applicants to pitch at the Fast 50 – Rising Star event. These companies were, in addition to Platome and DTE: SidekickHealth, Activity Stream and Kara Connect. The Fast 50 – Rising Star event was held on 9 November at Nauthóll, Reykjavík. Each finalist had 3 minutes to pitch his/her company in English and these presentations will be made available soon.

Activity Stream
Activity Stream provides a cloud-based operations intelligence service platform. It comprehensively enables the commercial exploitation of artificial intelligence to improve services and operations. This is done by generating clever real-time insights to a business operation.

Kara is a marketplace connecting clients with virtual professionals, in healthcare, education and beyond. For clients, KARA is a marketplace for secure and friendly video conferencing. For specialists, KARA offers state-of-the-art virtual office platform to seamlessly run their practice.
