The global economy has been notably robust.
A tone for inflation has been reinforced in the advanced countries, and previous dovish modes have been changing in monetary policies as evidenced by the first FRB (Federal Reserve Board) interest rate hike of this year.
As a result, interest rates are gradually rising.

Overview of Development in Financial Regulations

# The prospects of the global financial regulation

At the end of February and early March, important international conferences, a Basel Committee meeting and an FSB (Financial Stability Board) plenary meeting took place.
At the Basel Committee, despite some progress toward finalization of output floor of credit risk and leverage ratio framework were expected, the only information made public was the comments from the Chairman Stefan Ingves stating, “The Basel Committee has made further progress towards the finalisation of the Basel III reforms.

Recently inflation has become more notable in Europe where deflation was once feared.
Meanwhile, it drew attention as a sign of changing stance of ECB (European Central Bank) that the official statement released after the Governing Council on March 9th excluded the wording “act [against deflation] by using all the instruments available.”

# Thomson Reuters Conference “4th Annual Japan Regulatory Summit” (March 7th, 2017, Tokyo)
Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu LLC had an honor to join as a key partner of Thomson Reuters the ‘4th Annual Japanese Regulatory Summit’, running on 7th March 2017 at Grand Hyatt Hotel, Tokyo.
The summit revolved around three principal themes, “Regulation and Culture,” “Financial Crime Update,” and “Future Opportunities.”
Tsuyoshi Oyama (Head of CRMS, Deloitte Asia Pacific Risk and Capital Management Leader) provided a keynote presentation, “Stimulating Risk Appetite ? Seeking a recipe to make the ‘unexpected’ tasty.” Yuri Nakano (Senior Manager, CRMS) took part as a speaker in the panel discussion, “Global and local regulatory updates: New challenges for Japan and beyond” as well as Koichi Iwai (Senior Manager, CRMS) on another panel, “The impact of global political uncertainty on the Japanese regulatory environment, and what the future holds.”

# Deloitte CFO Signals Japan: 2016Q4 *Only available in Japanese
Deloitte has conducted the 6th regular survey on CFOs in Japan.
This survey investigated CFOs’ awareness on micro- and macro-economic environment as well as the impact of robotic process automation and artificial intelligence on corporate operations (survey period: January 10th to 20th).
CRMS has contributed to the examination part of the survey.
