Tax Dispute Resolution Workshop

Understanding the intricacies

Kenya runs a self-assessment tax regime. Individuals and corporates are therefore required to examine their taxable income and assess their tax liability based on the various tax laws.

To ensure compliance, the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) is mandated to collect taxes through administration and enforcement of the tax legislation.

In enforcing and administering the tax legislation, the KRA is authorised to raise default assessments. The KRA may raise default assessments for many reasons including, tax non-compliance, aggressive tax planning or divergent interpretation of the tax law.

A taxpayer who is issued with a default tax assessment and who disputes the assessment should object and, if necessary, appeal the tax assessment. The objection and appeal should be as guided by the tax legislation. However, the manner and speed of handling tax assessments is critical for success in resolving tax disputes.

The Deloitte School of Tax is pleased to invite you to a Tax Disputes Resolution Workshop to guide you through the objection and appeal process. We will also provide you with the key emerging issues in the tax dispute resolution.

The workshop will focus on the Tax Appeals Tribunal Rules and Procedures, Alternative Dispute Resolution procedures and our experience on dispute resolution matters.

Upon completion of the course, your staff will be able to:

  • Attain proficiency in the tax dispute resolution mechanisms and the processes; and
  • Avoid instances of errors in handling tax assessments.
Target audience:
  • Tax lawyers;
  • Tax accountants;
