14 October 2014 FT-EBRD Leadership Briefing: Tajikistan at the crossroads

The FT-EBRD Leadership Forum: Tajikistan at the crossroads brought together senior government officials, investors, thought leaders and industry representatives to explore the cross-border collaborations and business partnerships that should shape the future of Tajikistan.

Deloitte Caspian Region executives participated in a closed meeting with the editor-in-chief of Business New Europe, Ben Aris. During the meeting, Deloitte representatives - Andrew Weekes, Partner, Head of Audit for the Caspian Region, Manuel Hutama, Head of Consulting for the Caspian Region and Gulanor Atobek, Managing Director of Deloitte Tajikistan, discussed opportunities for the further development of the Tajikistan economy, and shared their views on the state of the investment climate in the country.

Andrew Weekes said that, “investing in Tajikistan is much like investing in other emerging markets. It is critical that any potential investor does their homework before entering the market, including market research on demand/capacity, competition, the availability of raw materials and resources (including human resources), legislative constraints including licenses and regulations and how the company will be structured both legally and from a tax perspective.”

15 October 2014 Deloitte Tajikistan took part in the “Economic and Investment Forum DUSHANBE-2014”.

The Forum, which was held under the auspices of "Dushanbe 2014: Entrepreneurship - engine of the economy" was inaugurated with an Opening Keynote Address by President Emomali Rakhmon, and was very well attended. The President welcomed participants and emphasised the positive shifts in the development of the national economy, stating that Tajikistan offers a favorable climate to regional and cross-border investments.

Deloitte Tajikistan supported the Economic Investment Forum as a Silver Sponsor, with its representatives taking part in panel sessions during the Forum. Gulanor Atobek, Managing Director of Deloitte Tajikistan, gave a speech at Panel Session 1A on the “Development of a Sustainable Banking and Finance System”, discussing the role of accounting and auditing to ensure sustainable development of the country’s financial system.
