Can you describe your career at Deloitte ?
Having completed my studies in management and finance at HEC-ULg in Belgium, I joined the corporate tax team at Deloitte Belgium in 2009. This gave me an insight into the tax profession and I decided to complete a Master in International and European Tax in parallel, with a goal to work in the field of International Tax law. I then had the opportunity to join Deloitte Luxembourg. I was interested in a career in Luxembourg because of its financial and dynamic environment. Since 2011, I have worked in the cross border tax department specializing in Mergers and Acquisitions.
I advise clients on a wide variety of international tax issues, including Mergers and Acquisitions, assistance with structuring acquisitions, income repatriation planning, leveraging acquisition vehicles and tax structuring for funds for major US and UK houses.
Can you tell me about your experience at the New York office ?
I had a wonderful opportunity to be assigned for 4 months to the Deloitte New York desk and to be part of the U.S. International Core of Excellence program. This program brings together International Tax practitioners from the largest countries and key financial centres around the world. The team helps US clients with the complex and challenging issues that often arise in the tax landscape in the United States. It was a great experience to work close to people from foreign countries, to build new relationships and to discover other tax jurisdictions.
This was an enriching experience from a professional but also from a personal point of view. New York is an exciting city full of surprises and unusual discoveries. It can be a beautiful building, a jazz band playing in the subway, an unusual shop, a drink on an amazing rooftop, a Broadway show… so many memories!
Can you tell me your funniest anecdote at Deloitte ?
Every year we have the opportunity to participate in a tax team building event, organized usually abroad. This year, the team building took place in the attraction park “Phantasia Land” in Germany, Raymond Krawczykowski, the tax leader, made a surprising entry for his opening speech. He “magically”. appeared on stage as the floor opened up, and yes, dressed as a rock star!
In your opinion, what qualities are necessary to work at Deloitte ?
Open-minded, flexible, proactive, good team spirit
How do you take part in the life at Deloitte ?
Last year I was involved in one of the community events organised by the Corporate Social Responsibility group of Deloitte. With my colleagues, I prepared gift boxes to be distributed to poor children for Christmas. I participate as often as possible in the happy hours organized every month in a different Luxembourgish bar. I attend the Chinese polyglot club organized by one of my colleagues in the International Tax team. This is a great opportunity to get together with others who are learning Chinese to practice.
