 Why did you choose Deloitte?

Having graduated from Manchester Business School and the McGill University (study abroad institution) in July 2012, I was looking to kick-start my career at an international company with top-tier expertise in the consulting field in Luxembourg. With diversity embedded in the cultural values of Deloitte, the firm’s consistent ranking amongst the top professional services providers, as well as its employee-centric approach, has led me to apply for a position within Consulting at Deloitte Luxembourg. Having now worked at Deloitte for more than one year, I can say that I have not been disappointed with any of these aspects.

Can you tell us more of your work as a strategy consultant?

My work as a Strategy Consultant is fairly varied and primarily consists of the delivery of value-added services (Strategy & TOM definition, Benchmarking performance, Market intelligence studies, etc.) to our clients – holding entities, trusts, private banks, asset management companies, to name but a few. The workload or schedule of a consultant in my department is just as diverse as the assignments performed and therefore one day does not look like another. As a team, we aim to adapt, and even anticipate future market trends and regulatory updates by the CSSF (the Luxembourgish supervisory body), allowing us to deliver and offer tailor-made solutions to our client base in a swift and timely manner.

In addition to being part of the Strategy Consulting team, I am involved in a number of in-house initiatives, ranging from the development of the Deloitte’s German Business Community (GBC) and Luxembourg Business Community (LBC) to the facilitation of in-house Luxembourgish classes and the representation of Deloitte as an ambassador at university campus events.

How was your integration?

The integration of new employees within the firm is just as important to Deloitte as the quality of services provided to our clients. During my first month, the focus was very much on the development of an internal contact network, and a soft introduction to the skills needed to perform my daily organization tasks. I then also participated in the Graduate Induction Week that was held in October 2012 – more than a hundred new starters from the Consulting, and Tax & Audit departments participated in this one-week long programme. The event encompasses, among others, a number of presentations from senior staff, with the aim of providing new starters with a more detailed overview of the services provided by Deloitte. Most importantly the event also encourages graduates to build cross-divisional relationships with other new starters. All in all, the Deloitte Induction week was probably one of the best experiences that I have had at Deloitte so far, and it allowed me to get to know a large number of professionals I am still referring to today for any issues/queries not directly related to my service line. Finally, Deloitte also has an established “buddy” programme, whereby all new joiners are assigned a specific colleague and provides new employees with the opportunity to ask questions regarding internal processes and workings within the first few months of joining Deloitte. This concept aims at further facilitating integration within the team.

You are a member of the Luxembourgish community. Can you tell us about it ?

Deloitte Luxembourg strongly supports innovative ideas with strong business potential. With this in mind, two Luxembourgish colleagues and I initiated the Luxembourgish Business Community (LBC) that operates since May 2012 under the leadership of Luc Brucher (Luxembourgish Audit Partner). The objective of the LBC is simple - building a hub for Luxembourgish speakers within the firm with the aim of better capturing opportunities inherent in the local Luxembourgish-speaking market. The LBC provides a real opportunity for Deloitte, and also allows the Luxembourgish population to be part of a smaller family within the bigger Deloitte family. The initial results of the LBC have been promising, and we are looking to further growing this initiative in the future
