Multiculturalism
With more than 180 different nationalities in the Grand Duchy, Luxembourg is a uniquely multicultural environment. Although the three official languages are Luxembourgish, French and German, English is also commonly used.
There are almost 675,000 people living in Luxembourg. The resident population is 52.8% Luxembourgish, while 47.2% are foreigners. Among the Luxembourgers, 18% have a second nationality (find more in the 2021 Census).

Need some fresh air? Nature is one of the crowning glories of Luxembourg, so get outside and enjoy the lush countryside— plus 25% of the city is dedicated to green space.
- Luxembourg features one of the largest pedestrian networks in Europe, with over 5,000 km of paths!
- There are more than 300 circular walks and long-distance trails.
- The 112-km-long Mullerthal Trail passes through the landscapes of the northeastern Mullerthal region playfully called “Little Switzerland.” The Mullerthal Trail is a certified trail of the “Leading Quality Trails - Best of Europe”.
- If you prefer getting around on two wheels, there are around 600 km of cycling routes and 700 km of mountain bike trails — a paradise for cycle tourists.
- Numerous lakes, forests and parks provide opportunities for other leisure activities (boating, swimming, barbecues).
- In the heart of the city, you’ll find enchanting walking trails along the Petrusse Valley and an epic picnic space at Kinnekswiss.
