Executing migrations to AWS Outposts with ATAMotion
Cloud migration & operation
A blog post by BJ Patel, vice president–Product Strategy & Development, Deloitte Consulting LLP.
AWS Outposts allows enterprise customers to fully realize the capabilities of the AWS cloud in their own data centers, offering a true hybrid deployment. Deloitte, an AWS Premier Partner, offers the ATADATA ATASphere platform to migrate on-premise workloads to AWS Outposts with ease.
Installing the ATASphere platform is a simple process that allows customers to leverage ATADATA’s migration module, ATAMotion, to then not only migrate servers to Outposts, but also to any AWS region around the globe. For AWS Outposts migrations, ATASphere is installed within the customer’s data center, and all data is migrated directly from their physical or virtual environment to Outposts, which offers a solution for customers to keep data transfer within their premises and with data sovereignty requirements.
ATAMotion deployment model
AWS Outposts is fully integrated with ATAMotion and allows users to auto-provision migration jobs on-premise, and it supports a wide range of Windows and Linux operating systems to be migrated to EC2 instances on Outposts. Since the migration is a direct source-to-target path, the ATAMotion module serves as a traffic director and will only perform the following types of activities:
- Launching migration jobs
- Deploying scripts to the source and target servers
- Collecting event logs
- Collecting migration status information and metrics
At the post migration phase, the customer has the option to instantly cutover their source VM to the target EC2 instance or keep both compute instances running simultaneously and have an ATAMirror sync job run while cutover planning is in progress. All of these activities are performed under a single pane of glass within the ATASphere platform.
