João Almeida

João is a Partner within the Cross-Border Tax – Mergers and Acquisitions team. He has over 14 years of experience in international tax with a specific focus on the Alternative Investment Funds (AIF) industry and more specifically in the Infrastructure asset class.

He is experienced in cross-border transactions, structuring deals for Pan-European and International Infrastructure & PE/RE Funds. He assisted several AIF managers in establishing their fund vehicles in Luxembourg and advises them on several acquisitions across Europe and South America, providing tax structuring advice focusing on the several stages of the investment (acquisition, ongoing and exit).

Together with a team of tax professionals in Luxembourg João is in frequent contact with the Deloitte affiliated offices so as to offer the most suitable and tailor made solution to his clients.

Aside from assisting clients, João has been assisting in the firm’s focus in the Infrastructure Industry, regularly attending conferences and seminars, ensuring the distribution of relevant industry information to clients and developing a team of tax experts in this asset class.

João is a Lawyer registered in the Portuguese Bar Association and since beginning of his career has always performed its activity in the field of tax.

Having started in Lisbon in tax litigation, João moved to work with an international firm and the largest in the Madeira free trade zone, before joining Deloitte Luxembourg in 2012.
