WorldClimate: driving our sustainable transformation

Deloitte Southeast Asia (SEA) is committed to taking measurable, decisive climate action through our work, network and our people. Deloitte’s global WorldClimate programme is designed to drive responsible climate action through our operations and among the communities in which we operate. We are committed to achieving net-zero operational emissions, with near-term goals (2030) validated by the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi).

Our strategy is built on four key pillars:

  1. Reduce emissions to meet our science-based net-zero goals for 2030.
  2. Embed sustainability within our internal policies, practices and actions.
  3. Empower individuals by educating and inspiring our people to make positive climate choices at home and at work, and amplify these through their personal networks.
  4. Engage ecosystems by collaborating with clients, alliance partners, NGOs, industry groups, suppliers, and others to increase demand for responsible products and services; remove roadblocks that get in the way of enacting change; and create innovative climate solutions at a systems and operations level.

As part of our science-based net-zero commitment, we focus on critical initiatives aligned with these strategic pillars. Specifically, we aim to reduce emissions from business travel by 50 per cent per head count compared to 2019 baseline levels, transition our purchased energy to 100 per cent renewable sources across all Deloitte facilities and decarbonise our vehicle fleet.

We are also working closely with our supply chain stakeholders to establish science-based carbon reduction targets and investing in market-based solutions to offset residual emissions. Our commitment extends beyond environmental targets. We enforce Business Conduct principles through our Supplier Code of Conduct that defines our expectations in the areas of human rights, labour, the environment, and integrity, ethics and anti-corruption.

As we continue in our Net Zero journey, we consistently work to minimise our carbon footprint, from enhancing the environmental performance of our buildings to promoting responsible travel practices. We aim to integrate our WorldClimate commitments into every aspect of our operations – from the events we host to the suppliers we work with – so that sustainability becomes a core part of how we do business.

Turning commitment into action: Initiatives supporting our net-zero journey

Explore our stories

While integrating sustainability into our operations, we also seek to change ecosystems by working with organisations to address climate challenges and drive systemic gains.

Read on to discover how Deloitte SEA has implemented this approach throughout our financial year of 2024.

Empowering our people

As part of our global WorldClass initiative, we support our people in engaging with their local communities year-round to help them address pressing issues in their geographies. We showcase our commitment to community-focused impact annually, with our SEA practices dedicating a month of service to the community during ‘Impact Month’, and every April during Earth Month. This is one way Deloitte devotes itself to shaping the world we live in and the environment we leave for future generations.

In 2024, our SEA offices commemorated Earth Month with a month-long campaign encouraging employees to delete unnecessary data from their cloud systems.
Through this simple action, we aimed to create a more energy-efficient workplace. Deleting data that are no longer needed and reducing overall digital footprint means less energy consumption. Similarly, storing less data in cloud files reduces the strain on data centre cooling systems, leading to less water usage.

Additionally, we conducted a SEA-wide survey on our employees’ commuting routines to refine our environmental reporting methodology, which includes emissions from employee commuting to office and remote working outside of office. This improved environmental reporting enables us to develop more effective solutions for reducing emissions and advancing our collective efforts toward a low carbon economy.

Engaging with our ecosystem to foster sustainable, inclusive growth

Recognising the collective effort needed to tackle the climate crisis, we are also engaging with our broader ecosystem and supporting our clients to create solutions for transitioning to a low-carbon economy. Read on to learn more about our achievements in this sphere over the past 12 months.
