Deloitte KidsEdu

Part of Deloitte’s global WorldClass initiative, KidsEdu is the Malaysian flagship CSR program. To date, the program has more than 200 Deloitte volunteers, serving 1,100 students from across the country.

Established in June 2019, Deloitte KidsEdu hopes to improve the academic performance of school-going children in the B40 community, aged between 7 and 12.

As the world grappled with the pandemic and it’s ensuing accelerated digital transformation, we had to rethink how we delivered the program. On 10 June 2020, we launched our KidsEdu virtual classes, delivering fortnightly English classes through Zoom.

Education is an essential catalyst in breaking the poverty cycle! Since its inception in 2019, the program has grown from one to seven centres – Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Sarawak, Johor, Negeri Sembilan, and Pahang. It is also set to grow even bigger, as plans are currently underway for more centres nationwide.

Scaling up on the outreach also meant that there was a need for more technology enablement. In ensuring that education remains accessible to all, since July 2020, the firm has contributed 643 (and counting) tablets and refurbished laptops equipped with YES 4G data sponsored by the YTL Foundation, to the program. We remain committed to provide 200 laptops annually, to facilitate a more robust and engaging learning experience.

Our strategic partners include MyPJ in support of communities in People’s Public Housing (PPR) Desa Mentari and PPR Sri Pantai; in Penang, YB Chong Eng’s office in support of Komuniti Padang Lalang, Komuniti Kg Bukit Gelugor, Sekolah Kanak-Kanak Terencat Akal Penang; YTL Foundation; Monash University Malaysia; Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT); Yayasan Johor Corporation; Yayasan Munarah; and the State Education Department of Sarawak, Penang, and Pahang.
