These days, a business leader is expected to ensure that the finance function utilises and adopts new skills to report their long-term value. For organisations to make the most of all the data for reporting, business leaders should consider three critical actions: shifting to achieve value-driven reporting; transforming finance function and overcoming cultural barriers, as well as managing business risk in the world of disruption.

Value-Driven Reporting is focused on showing the connectivity of strategic objectives, risk and performance to demonstrate how organisations are creating value. Organisations needs to understand and report on all areas of performance and not just focus on the short-term financial results.

Try to imagine yourself looking for a company to invest in. The first documents to base your decision on, might be the latest annual report on the specific company. However, you will be left with many unanswered questions, even more so if the company is only showing the minimum information that is required by the law and standards. You will learn relatively little about the company’s business activities, their competitors, their future plans or how they intend to achieve sustainable competitive advantage.

Value-Driven Reporting aims to fill the gaps so that existing or prospective investors can better understand the company, and can make better decisions in their plans for the future.

This more integrated thinking will help organisations communicate better with their stakeholders, provide a better picture of the organisation's worth and improve risk awareness as well as risk management.

Jonathan Labrey
Chief Strategic Officer,
International Integrated Reporting Council (IIRC)

Jonathan Labrey leads the IIRC’s global strategy and policy development, which aims to create the conditions for Integrated Reporting to flourish. Since joining the IIRC in March 2012, Jonathan has travelled widely and has developed a deep insight into the major trends and policy developments in corporate reporting across the world. Jonathan has a background in government relations, policy and regulation, having headed up the public affairs and policy team at the ICAEW from 2004-10 and at the RIBA from 2000-2004. From 2010-2012 Jonathan was head of communications at the UK’s Financial Reporting Council, the accounting, audit and corporate governance regulator. He started his career as a political advisor in the UK Parliament, having read Law at King’s College, University of London.

Chari TVT
CFO Consultant & Advisor

Chari has served as a consultant to a large listed Airport company in Malaysia responsible for their international business. He is also a consultant to a high-tech semiconductor pure play fabrication company, as a CFO Designate. He also serves as an advisor to a UK based listed software company.

His has also served as CFO of Axiata Group Berhad, Board Member for XL Axiata (Indonesia) and Dialog (Sri Lanka). He was Board Audit Chairman of Smart Cambodia and Ncell Nepal.
Mr. Chari was awarded Best CFO in Malaysia (2016) by Finance Asia HK publication. He actively presents papers at many external forums assisting the next generation by educating, training, mentoring and coaching. Mr. Chari holds an MBA from University of Buffalo, New York and a Fellow member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants UK (CIMA).

Paul is the Senior Independent Non Executive Director of an industrial chemical and an IT Services companies listed in the Malaysian Stock Exchange. Paul is the Global IIRC Ambassador of International Integrated Reporting Council; he Chairs the ASEAN Integrated Reporting Committee to advocate for the strategic practices of integrated value creation thinking in effective utilization of multi-capital resources for sustainable growth of enterprises. Paul is the President/Co-Founder of MACD, a not-for-profit, independent, membership entity, Vice President I of the Federation of Public Listed Companies (FPLC) and an Executive Member of the Global Network of Director Institutes (GNDI). A Chartered Accountant, a Fellow Member of, respectively, the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA, UK), the Institute of Chartered Secretaries & Administrators (FCIS, UK) and CPA Australia (FCPA), he is also an NACD Governance Fellow and NACD Board Leadership Fellow of the National Association of Corporate Directors, USA, and a Life-Member of Ascend Pinnacle Asian Corporate Directors, USA.

Izzad Shamsudin
Business Advisory Leader,

Izzad currently leads the Business Advisory practice. He also leads the sustainability assurance and integrated reporting in Malaysia. He is Deloitte Southeast Asia’s representative for Deloitte Global Integrated Reporting Forum. Izzad has worked extensively with clients in the banking and GLC sectors. He was also a manager in an advisory practice specialising in Banking and Capital Market. His advisory exposure includes being a programme manager and advisor for the setup of Islamic Banking Window of a foreign bank, facilitator and content developer for a senior management strategy retreat for a leading development financial institution and manager for a simulation exercise involving a bank failure for a leading statutory body.
