Impact Day 2017

Deloitte Malaysia impacts more than 2000 lives as they give back to the community

25 August 2017

More than 800 Deloitte Malaysia employees in eight offices across the country came together for an entire day of volunteering on IMPACT Day, Deloitte’s annual CSR initiative which took place concurrently across 11 geographies in Southeast Asia on 25 August 2017. Themed ‘Making an impact that matters’, IMPACT Day comprised various activities and programmes run by Deloitte volunteers nationwide that collectively impacted more than 4,000 lives, bringing joy, restoration, knowledge, and replenishment to the local community.

In total, we volunteered at 15 centres nationwide this year - eight centres in the Klang Valley and seven centres in Penang, Ipoh, Melaka, Johor Bahru, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu.”

Our Deloitte volunteers spent a meaningful day with the underprivileged children of United Learning Centre, a volunteer-driven centre for Myanmar refugees, helping them cultivate the love of education through arts and craft, English classes, performances and sports. Elsewhere, in a collaboration with Teach For Malaysia, Deloitte employees and student ambassadors reached out to students of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Tinggi Klang, cleaning and refreshing the exterior of the school with a new coat of paint as well as equipping the students with a career talk.

Furthermore, we teamed up with Friends of Kota Damansara (FoKD) on environmental projects, where volunteers rolled up their sleeves to spring clean, paint, refurbish and landscape the surroundings of the People’s Housing Project (PPR) Flats in Kota Damansara and MPPJ Desa Mentari. In continuing support of the underprivileged in Malaysia, a group of Deloitte volunteers participated in Kechara Soup Kitchen’s ‘Feed the urban poor’ programme, delivering groceries to poor families in the Klang Valley and spending the day with them to understand their needs. Meanwhile, another team pitched in at the Pit Stop Community Café, where they were involved in spring cleaning, preparing food and distributing necessities to the homeless.

Our volunteers also brought much joy to the sick, elderly, disabled, single-parent children and orphans in various centres all over Malaysia, including the National Autism Society of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur; Hospital Selayang Paediatric Ward, Selangor; Rumah Kebajikan Seri Cahaya, Penang; Persatuan Untuk Kanak-Kanak Terencat Akal SPU, Penang; Rumah Kebajikan Kanak-kanak Cacat Negeri Perak, Batu Gajah (RKKKC), Ipoh; AgapeCare, Melaka; and Pusat Kebajikan Kalvari Johor, Johor Bahru.

Over in East Malaysia, Deloitte employees in the Kuching office came together to raise funds for the Sarawak Society for the Deaf through a car wash. The volunteers also visited the centre, helping to clean the surroundings and keep the residents company. Finally, at the Bukit Harapan Therapy Community Centre in Kota Kinabalu, Deloitte volunteers not only took part in cleaning work but also spent quality time with the disabled and/or abused women and children living at the shelter, entertaining them with games and movies.
